suspects who attacked the peaceful protesters in front of Temple Trees and at Galle Face Green on 9 May will be arrested within the next two days.

BASL President Saliya Peiris PC said the IGP gave this assurance when he and BASL Deputy President Anura Maddagoda met with the IGP and a group of senior officers in charge of the CID on Monday at the Police Headquarters at the IGP’s invitation.

Over the last few days, representations were made by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) to the Attorney General and the IGP on the attacks on the protestors and on the violence which occurred thereafter, Peiris said.

“We were informed by these officers that in the next two days a number of arrests will be made in respect of the attacks on the protests opposite Temple Trees and at Galle Face,” BASL President said.

BASL President said he pointed out to the IGP and the senior officers of the CID the importance of maintaining public confidence in the investigations by taking prompt and effective action on matters.
