Over five million persons have received the booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, the Epidemiology Unit states.
In total, 5,018,241 persons have received the booster dose, including 30,253 persons vaccinated on Thursday.
According to Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana, officials were hoping to complete the COVID-19 immunisation program soon.
“Our expectation is to administer the booster dose to the majority of the country within a week starting Saturday and complete the vaccination program,” he said.
The Epidemiology Unit states that the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 16,550,296 persons and the second dose has been administered to 13,891,828 persons. According to Our World in Data, 76.75% of the population has received the first dose, while 64.61% has received the second dose.
On Thursday, 76,141 persons received COVID-19 vaccines. This includes 42,177 persons who received the first dose of Pfizer and 1,888 persons who received the second dose of the vaccine. A total of 2,118,259 persons have received the first dose of Pfizer and 492,492 persons have received the second dose.
The first dose of Sinopharm was administered to 563 persons on Thursday and the second dose was administered to 1,260 persons. The first dose of Sinopharm has been administered to a total of 11,988,495 persons and 11,037,570 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 1,479,631 persons have received the first dose of AstraZeneca and 1,418,593 persons have received the second dose.
The first dose of Moderna has been administered to 804,801 persons and the second dose has been administered to 787,361 persons.
A total of 159,110 persons have received the first dose of Sputnik V and 155,812 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine.
