Health officials yesterday said persons over 30 years are now eligible for the booster dose in Colombo city.
According to Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Medical Officer of Health (Epidemiology and Statistics) Dr. Dinu Guruge, the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be administered to persons over 30 years starting today.
“As usual, we will be sending an SMS to all the eligible citizens. Please do not panic and create unnecessary public gatherings,” she tweeted.
Persons are eligible for the booster dose if they are over 30 years and received the second dose of AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, Sputnik V, Moderna or Pfizer at least three months ago.
Dr. Guruge added that walk-in vaccination will be available for the booster dose for this age group at the vaccination centre managed by the Army at the Vihara Maha Devi Park as well.
The booster dose has been administered to 1,081,303 persons, including 44,838 persons vaccinated on Wednesday.
COVID-19 vaccines were administered to 48,362 persons on Wednesday.
The first dose of Sinopharm was administered to 603 persons on Wednesday and 1,862 persons received the second dose of the vaccine. The first dose of Sinopharm has been administered to 11,952,488 persons in total and the second dose has been administered to 10,952,057 persons.
The first dose of Pfizer has been administered to 1,553,911 persons and 464,605 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine. On Wednesday, 704 persons received the first dose of Pfizer and 295 persons received the second dose of the vaccine.
Sixty persons received the second dose of Moderna on Wednesday, raising the total number of persons to have received the second dose of Moderna to 783,073. The first dose of Moderna has been administered to 804,801 persons.
The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 1,479,631 persons and the second dose has been administered to 1,418,593 persons.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 159,110 persons have received the first dose of Sputnik V and 155,812 persons have received the second dose of Sputnik V.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 15,949,941 persons have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 13,774,140 persons have received the second dose as well.
