The Botswana Muslim Association issued the following statement yesterday on the Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka:

“The Botswana Muslim Association expresses its shock and grief at the horrific bombings on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka and condemns in the strongest terms the tragic loss of innocent lives. We are deeply saddened by this uncivilised act, which goes against humanistic values.

“Most of the victims were at church and such terrible attacks should not be perpetrated against any person irrespective of religion or belief. We must ensure that no one should ever have to practice their faith in fear.

“We call upon all the people of Sri Lanka to stand together in the face of this barbaric act. Terrorists use religion and race as a tool to manipulate the impressionable masses into aligning with their own sick mentality.

“Rise above the hate and extremism. Fiercely hold onto your respective faiths and morals to continue practicing and preaching love and kindness. We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families and offer our prayers for the injured. Botswana Muslim Association stands in solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka in their hour of grief.”
