Bread, wheat flour, sugar prices down

• All Island Bakery Owners’ Association says prices of other bakery items will remain unchanged

The price of a 450-gram loaf of bread has been reduced by Rs. 10, as main wheat flour importing companies Prima Ceylon Ltd., and Serendib Flour Mills Ltd., announced Rs. 15 price drop for a kilo yesterday.

Speaking at a special media briefing yesterday All Island Bakery Owners’ Association President N.K. Jayawardena said that the decision to bring down bread prices was due to the price reduction of wheat flour.

However, he said that there will be no price reduction for other bakery items.

Separately, the Association of Importers and Wholesale Traders of Pettah said the wholesale price of sugar has been reduced by Rs. 20-25 a kilo from last night.
