Businessman’s youngest son further remanded over alleged murder of father

The son of a well-known businessman who was arrested by the CID over his father’s killing was further remanded till 15 October by the Colombo Magistrate yesterday.

During the Magisterial inquiry, the CID who is conducting investigations moved to further remand the suspect as the investigations are not concluded.

Counsel Samansha Premachandra appearing for the suspect, moved court to issue copies of the statements made by the suspect and his accomplice involved in the crime to the suspect.

However President Counsel Rienzie Arsekularastne objected to issuing the statements to the suspect.

Magistrate Kanchana Niranjali Silve fixed the trial for 15 October.

Counsel Naamiq Nafath watched the interest of one of the aggrieved daughters of the victim.

The CID had arrested suspect Shabbir Abbas Gulamhusein, who is the youngest son of victim Gulamhusein over the murder of the well-known businessman and owner of Adam Exports on 9 June 2017.

Gulamhusein passed away inside his office in Colombo under suspicious circumstances.

Following the investigations conducted by the CID, it arrested the youngest son of the businessman in connection with the murder. It was revealed that the murder was imperceptibly planned and the funeral arrangements were made to look like a natural death.
