C.W. Mackie expands environmental efforts with ‘Beach Cleaning Day’

As part of the “Marine Pollution Prevention” component of its Sixfold Sustainable Model, C.W. Mackie PLC recently organised “Beach Cleaning Day” in an effort to band together environmentalists and the staff of C.W. Mackie towards achieving a shared goal.

Starting bright and early at Mount Lavinia, “Beach Cleaning Day” was a joint effort carried out in collaboration with environmental organisations Clean Ocean Force and Wana Arana as well as the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA), the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) and Sri Lanka Police.

Commenting on the success of the event, C.W. Mackie PLC Chairman Hemaka Amarasuriya noted: “Sri Lanka is a country blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches and seas and other wonders of nature. As times progress, we hear more about pollution and climate change. Corporates cannot and should not turn a deaf ear. We at C.W. Mackie have realised the importance of taking leadership to preserve the environment and we are committed to continue these efforts in the many years to come.”

In the last few years alone, Sri Lanka has faced multiple incidents of marine and beach pollution, putting both marine and human life at grave risk. This has resulted in the importance of corporations collaborating with governmental and non-governmental organisations for long-term marine conservation initiatives increasing rapidly.

With this call for action in mind, C.W.
