The Fort Magistrate yesterday permitted the Criminal Investigation Department to direct the Government Analyst to record voice samples of Anti-Corruption Movement Operations Director Namal Kurmara in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The CID requested the court’s permission to record voice samples in connection with the ongoing investigation into the alleged assassination plot.
Further, the Magistrate was also informed by the CID that the Indian national arrested at Namal Kumara’s residence had given evidence of an alleged attempt to assassinate former president Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family.
The Indian national, questioned under detention orders, revealed that he had rented a house down Ragama Thewatta Road. The CID also informed Court that the suspect was overstaying his visa.
The suspect was being questioned further over the alleged assassination attempt revealed by him, the CID informed the Fort Magistrate.
