CID records statement from IGP over alleged assassination plot

The Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday recorded a statement from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara over the alleged plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena.

Sources said the statement was recorded for around four hours as part of the investigation of the alleged plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena, which was revealed by the Operation Director of the Anti-Corruption Force, Namal Kumara, in September.

Sources also said IGP Jayasundara would be summoned to the CID for further investigation in due course. 

Former Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) Director DIG Nalaka Silva was also questioned by the CID and later arrested over the alleged plot to assassinate President Sirisena.

Kumara at a press conference in September revealed, through recordings of a telephone conversation, an alleged plot to assassinate President Sirisena.
