COPE elects Nishantha Samaraweera as Chair

MP Dr. Nishantha Samaraweera was unanimously elected as the Chair of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) of Parliament.

He was appointed when the Committee met in Parliament on 9 January for the first session of the 10th Parliament.

The name of Dr. Samaraweera for the position of Chair was proposed by MP Chandima Hettiarachchi and seconded by MP Sunil Rajapaksa.

The COPE Chair addressed the Committee, emphasising the importance of collaboration and support from all MPs in advancing the Committee’s work.

Dr. Samaraweera conveyed that he views the responsibility entrusted to him as a significant one and expects to act impartially in the future.
