COVID-19 death toll exceeds 1,000 with 34 deaths confirmed

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 fatalities yesterday exceeded 1,000 with health authorities confirming 34 COVID-19 related deaths.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, the deaths occurred between 11 May and yesterday. The country’s COVID-19 death toll is 1,015.

Among persons who died of COVID-19 related causes yesterday are a 55-year-old individual from Colombo 2, 63-year-old individual from Katebola, 64-year-old individual from Puttalam, and an 80-year-old individual from Pasyala.

On 17 May, a 58-year-old individual from Watinapaha, 62-year-old individual from Talgaswela, 65-year-old individual from Athurugiriya, 67-year-old individual from Kahatagasdigiliya, 74-year-old individual from Kappitipola, 80-year-old individual from Pamunuwatte, and an 80-year-old individual from Godakanda died of COVID pneumonia.

COVID-19 related deaths that occurred on 17 May also include that of a 20-year-old individual from Ratnapura, 32-year-old individual from Dematagoda, 38-year-old individual from Ragama, 60-year-old individual from Nugegoda, 70-year-old individual from Udumulla, 77-year-old from Bandaragama, and a 79-year-old from Ingiriya.

The COVID-19 related deaths that occurred on 16 May include that of a 55-year-old individual from Madapatha, 56-year-old individual from Mulatiyana, 72-year-old individual from Alawathugoda, 76-year-old individual from Ruwanwella, and an 80-year-old individual from Mattakkuliya.

The COVID-19 deaths from 16 May confirmed by health authorities yesterday also include a 60-year-old individual from Kandapola, 66-year-old from Mahagama, 68-year-old individual from Pannala, 70-year-old individual from Wellampitiya, 71-year-old individual from Kirindiwela, 74-year-old individual from Madapatha, 78-year-old individual from Rathgama, and a 94-year-old individual from Bandaragama.

On 15 May, a 78-year-old individual from Angulugaha and a 60-year-old individual from Nawalapitiya died of COVID pneumonia.

On 11 May, an 83-year-old individual from Mailapitiya died of COVID pneumonia while receiving treatment in a private hospital in Colombo.
