COVID-19 death toll exceeds 15,000

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll exceeded 15,000 yesterday with health officials stating that 24 more fatalities occurred the previous day.

A total of 15,019 deaths have been confirmed by health officials. The country’s death toll crossed the 14,000-mark on 14 October, with the confirmation of 21 fatalities. The Epidemiology Unit states that 76.43% of the total deaths are over 60 years, 22.4% are between 30 and 59 years, and 1.17% are below 30 years.

Thirteen deaths confirmed on Saturday were over 60 years and 11 were between 30 and 59 years. Zero deaths were confirmed from the under-30 age group.

Twenty deaths confirmed on Saturday were male and four were female. Of the total deaths, 8,428 are male and 6,591 are female.
