COVID-19 death toll rises to 144

Health authorities yesterday confirmed two COVID-19-related deaths, bringing the country’s death toll to 144.

According to the Department of Government Information, a 62-year-old resident of Colombo 10 died of COVID pneumonia yesterday. He was transferred from a private hospital to the Colombo East Base Hospital, where he passed away.

The other death was that of a 20-day infant who passed away at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children on 8 December. The infant was from Colombo 15 and died of blood poisoning, multi-organ dysfunction, and COVID pneumonia.
