The confirmation of 11 COVID-19 related deaths yesterday brought the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 720.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, a 74-year-old individual from Walgammulla died of COVID pneumonia at her place of residence on 4 May.
The same day, a 69-year-old individual from Weyangoda died of COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the Watupitiwela Base Hospital. A 64-year-old individual from Kurunegala tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital and was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital. On 4 May, he died of COVID pneumonia, high blood pressure, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and acute kidney damage.
Seven of the deaths occurred on 3 May. This includes that of an individual from Kongahawela who tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the Matale District Hospital. He was then transferred to the Teldeniya Base Hospital, where he died of acute COVID pneumonia and acute kidney damage. He was 33 years old.
An 84-year-old individual from Diyatalawa tested positive for COVID-19 at the Diyatalawa Base Hospital and was transferred to the Badulla General Hospital. He died of COVID pneumonia, bronchitis, and tissue damage in the lungs on 3 May. The same day, a 94-year-old individual from Malabe died of COVID pneumonia, a heart attack and high blood pressure while receiving treatment at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) and a 62-year-old individual from Maharagama died of COVID pneumonia, chronic liver disease, diabetes and asthma at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL).
An individual from Aranayake tested positive for COVID-19 at the Aranayake District Hospital and was transferred to the Mawanella Base Hospital, where he died of COVID pneumonia on 3 May. The individual was 68 years old.
An 82-year-old individual from Moratuwa tested positive while receiving treatment at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital and was transferred to the Colombo East Base Hospital. On 3 May, he died of acute COVID pneumonia.
The same day, an individual from Waskaduwa who tested positive for COVID-19 at a private hospital in Colombo and was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital died of COVID pneumonia. The individual was 73 years old.
A 49-year-old individual from Dalupotha tested positive for COVID-19 at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital and was transferred to the Colombo East Base Hospital, where she died of COVID pneumonia on 2 May.
