COVID-19 vaccines were administered to 72,177 persons on Sunday, raising the number of persons who have received one dose of a vaccine to 13,497,826 and the number of persons who have received both doses to 10,579,220.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 88.5% of the country’s population over the age of 30 has received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and 12.3% of the population between 20 and 29 years has received both vaccine doses. Of the population between 20 and 29 years, 35.8% have received at least one dose of a vaccine.
With regard to the vaccination of the school-going population, Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation State Minister Channa Jayasumana said relevant recommendations are expected this week.
“A committee has been appointed to look into this, and with the reception of the committee’s recommendations this week, we can decide when certain grades can start and when,” he said.
The State Minister added that the reopening of preschools was also discussed and recommendations on this are expected as well.
Meanwhile, a consignment of 73,710 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine reached the island yesterday, and as of Sunday, the first dose of Pfizer had been administered to 448,382 persons and the second dose had been administered to 240,569 persons. On Sunday, 12,341 persons received the first dose of the vaccine and 104 persons received the second dose of Pfizer.
The first dose of Sinopharm was administered to 24,324 persons on Sunday and the second dose of the vaccine was administered to 32,866 persons. A total of 10,679,335 persons have received the first dose of Sinopharm and 8,647,025 persons have received the second dose as well.
The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 1,438,065 persons, of which 892,185 persons have received the second dose as well. This includes persons vaccinated on Sunday when 790 persons received the first dose of AstraZeneca and 451 persons received the second dose.
The second dose of Moderna was administered to 1,301 persons on Sunday, raising the number of persons to receive the second dose of the vaccine to 755,991. The first dose of Moderna has been administered to 772,955 persons.
The first dose of Sputnik V has been administered to 159,089 persons and the second dose has been administered to 43,450 persons.
