The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday cleared a proposal to submit the draft regulations under Sri Lanka Water Aerodromes No. 1 of 2022 to the Parliament.

In 2000, float plane operations were established in Sri Lanka as a lucrative industry that would help the tourism sector grow. Given the business interest it has picked over the years, it has become necessary to regularise the activities in to ensure the safe operation of the water aerodrome.

Although there is only one private company currently operating the water aerodrome, it has been noted that other businesses will likely pick up in the trade in the future.

 Accordingly, adhering to the obligations of the International Civil Aviation Convention, and as per the provisions of the Civil Aviation Act No. 14 of 2010, the regulations under Sri Lanka Water Aerodromes No. 1 of 2022 have been published in the extraordinary Gazette notification on 9 August 2022.

The proposal to this effect submitted by Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
