Cabinet nod to publish gazette to increase fines under Criminal Procedure Code

The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved publishing the draft Bill prepared to increase the fines mentioned in the Criminal Procedure Code, in the Government gazette and subsequently present it to the Parliament for approval.

The Bill prepared accordingly by the Legal Draftsman has received the clearance of the Attorney General.

On 27 November 2023, the Cabinet approved amending the Criminal Procedure Code so that the fines mentioned in the Criminal Procedure Code can be increased based on the current monetary value. 

The proposal to this effect submitted by the Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Minister was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
