Canadian High Commissioner calls on President

  • Extends support for President’s anti-corruption and safety initiatives, IMF and debt restructuring process 

Canadian High Commissioner Eric Walsh yesterday called on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

During the meeting, Ambassador Walsh extended his congratulations to the President on his recent election victory and conveyed the Canadian Government’s and its people’s best wishes. 

The High Commissioner highlighted corruption and the lack of safety as significant obstacles to attracting foreign investments. He expressed his appreciation for the President’s commitment to eradicating corruption and ensuring a secure environment in the country. Ambassador Walsh emphasised that with the proposed reforms, Sri Lanka would be better positioned to attract international investments. He also reaffirmed Canada’s support for Sri Lanka’s engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the on-going debt restructuring process.
