Celebration of 112th birth anniversary of late Deshamanya N.U. Jayawardena

The 112th birth anniversary of Senator, first Central Bank Governor and financier Deshamanya N.U. Jayawardena was commemorated 25 Feb by members of the Jayawardena family and staff members of MMBL – Pathfinder and the Pathfinder Foundation.

As part of this occasion, members of the Jayawardena family, led by his daughter Neiliya Perera, placed flowers at his statue opposite the late Jayawardena’s residence, located at Cambridge Place, Colombo. 

This remembrance was followed by several other events, including a ceremony held at MMBL – Pathfinder Headquarters at Riverpoint, Peliyagoda where his son, Nimal Jayawardena, barrister, company chairman, wildlife expert, and firearms authority, donated his entire sets of both the Gun Digest and Shooters Bible annuals to the Army Marksmanship and Sniper Training School in Diyatalawa. 

The Commandant of the school, Brigadier G.M.C.K.B. Ekanayake, was present to accept this valuable collection.

Gun Digest has been published annually for more than 70 years. It is an important source and research guide for firearms enthusiasts worldwide, containing informative articles by the top writers in the field, covering every aspect of guns and shooting, including hunting, personal defence, target practice, gun-making and collecting.

The Shooter’s Bible, has been published for more than 80 years. It is the most comprehensive and sought-after reference guide for new firearms and their specifications, as well as for thousands of guns that have been in production and are currently on the market. Nearly every firearms manufacturer in the world is included in this renowned compendium. 

These two series provide a comprehensive history of the technical evolution of firearms since the end of the Second World War. Nimal Jayawardena’s collection of these two annuals is unbroken since 1955, each consisting of over 65 volumes each.
