The Government is taking measures to vaccinate children over the age of 12, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday. According to him, priority will be given to children with various complications.
The remarks were made at the opening of the Southern Province COVID-19 childcare unit established at Hambantota Hospital, where children had previously been treated for COVID-19 in the women’s ward.
Vaccination of persons over the age of 30 is currently taking place countrywide, with 39.4% of the population having received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
All persons over 30 have received the first dose in the Colombo, Gampaha, Vavuniya, Matale, Kandy, Galle, Ratnapura, Polonnaruwa and Hambanthota Districts. Over 80% first dose coverage has been achieved in all other districts.
The second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 68.6% of the over 30 population in Colombo.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 11,850,308 persons have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in the country and 4,527,502 persons have received the second dose. This includes the 309,559 persons vaccinated against COVID-19 on Saturday.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 65,695 persons received the first dose of Sinopharm and 217,712 persons received the second dose on Saturday. In total, the first dose of Sinopharm has been administered to 9,379,926 persons and the second dose to 3,614,645 persons.
The first dose of AstraZeneca was administered to 17,219 persons on Saturday and 493 persons received the AstraZeneca second dose on Saturday. The first dose of the vaccine has been administered to 1,293,631 persons and the second dose to 871,432 persons.
On Saturday, 4,305 persons received the first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, raising the total number of first dose Moderna vaccines administered in Sri Lanka to 765,441.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 102 persons received the first dose of Pfizer and 4,032 persons received the second dose of Pfizer on Saturday. In total, the first dose of the vaccine has been administered to 252,229 persons and the second dose has been administered to 26,908 persons.
One person received the Sputnik V second dose on Saturday, raising the total number of persons to receive the second dose of the vaccine to 14,517. The first dose of Sputnik V has been administered to 159,081 persons.
