Colombo Fort Magistrate Court Registrar arrested

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) arrested the Registrar of the Colombo Fort Magistrate based on a complaint received from Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday.

She is facing allegations of falsifying documents and presenting them to immigration authorities in an effort to assist a suspect who was under a foreign travel ban in leaving the country. The documents in question falsely asserted that the suspect had received approval from the courts to depart the country.

CID investigators also obtained statements from both court officials responsible for maintaining the case files, including the member of staff who typed the document.
