Colombo Magistrate directs CID to report on Diana Gamage’s identity

The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday directed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to submit a report in Court on 15 December to ascertain whether State Minister Diana Gamage had obtained a Sri Lankan passport despite being a British citizen.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe made this direction to the CID following the submissions made by Lawyers of Samagi Jana Balavegaya during the inquiry into a case filed by the CID on a complainant made by Oshada Hearth before the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court.

At the onset of the inquiry, yesterday Attorney–At–Law Manju Sri Chandrasena told the Magistrate that he was appearing on behalf of the complainant Oshada Hearth and contended that his client appointed him to represent the complainant during the investigation before the court and had not appointed anyone else to represent his client.

Counsel Gunaratna Wanninayake appearing with a team of lawyers’ informed the court that they intervened in the case on the instructions of the Secretary of the SJB.

Counsel Wanninayake said that it was SJB that had been badly affected by the action of Diana Gamage.

The Magistrate informed that the matter was a criminal one and anyone who had been affected by such an action of the suspect could intervene in the court proceedings and make representations.

Thereafter, the CID sleuths told the Magistrate that they had investigated the complaint of Herath and had reordered statements from several parties including the Commissioner of Immigration and Emigration and the Commissioner for the Department for the Registration of persons and had sent the extracts to the Attorney General for his opinion.
