Colombo stock market gains on political developments

The Colombo stock market gained sharply today in the aftermath of Saturday's peaceful revolt by the people against the incumbent regime. The active S&PSL20 Index gained by over 5% and the benchmark ASPI by over 3%. Turnover however was low at Rs. 811 million involving 53 million shares. Year to date the ASPI and S&PSL20 are down by over 40%.
