President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday said that he is committed to delivering the development needs of the citizens of Colombo by personally inspecting the work of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) and providing the Council with any facilities needed.

The President made these remarks addressing a public rally held in Colombo Central on Thursday.

The lives of the people living in the city of Colombo, said Sirisena, does not adequately reflect its beauty. People living in some parts of Colombo, not unlike estate residents in the central hills, are suffering as a result of inaction on the part of the politicians they have voted into power, he said.

After the local government elections, the CMC will be turned into a Council dedicated to solving the issues of the people in areas of health, education and welfare.

The public rally, held at the  Aluthkade Junction, is part of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA)’s election campaign for the CMC.

Ministers Mahinda Amaraweera, Faizer Mustapha, Dayasiri Jayasekara, State Minister A.H.M. Fowzie, Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala, MP Weerakumara Disanayake, and Pradeep Jayewardene were among the participants.
