Committee appointed to roll out online payment of traffic police fines

A special discussion on the drafting of laws and regulations to enable the payment of motor traffic offences online was held at the Ministry of Justice.

Justice Minister Ali Sabry PC, Minister of Development Coordination and Monitoring, Youth and Sports and State Minister of Digital Technology and Entrepreneur Development Namal Rajapaksa, Public Security Minister Dr. Sarath Weerasekera, Transport Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, and Attorney General Sanjaya Rajaratnam PC, were involved in the discussion.

Laws needed to implement the online payment or on-the-spot digitally were discussed and a committee headed by the Transport Ministry Secretary and comprising TRCSL, Sri Lanka Police, the Central Bank, People’s Bank, Lanka Clear and ICTA was appointed. The committee will be supervised by Minister Weerasekera.

The committee has been tasked with submitting recommendations by January. The new method for paying fines will be piloted in expressways and highways before being rolled out to other roads.
