Committee headed by PM to oversee 72nd Independence Day celebrations

• Main event will be held at Independence Square, Colombo

 

The 72nd anniversary of Sri Lanka’s independence will be celebrated at Independence Square, Colombo on 4 February 2020, according to a Cabinet decision made on Wednesday.

A ministerial committee headed by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will oversee the preparations for the national celebrations for Independence Day.

The proposals to appoint the committee was made to Cabinet by Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon.
