Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India passed away in New Delhi on 26 December 2024.
Dr. Manmohan Singh served as the 13th Prime Minister of India from 22 May 2004 – 26 May 2014. As distinguished economist and visionary leader, Dr. Manmohan Singh served as the Finance Minister from 1991 and 1996 and guided the nation out of a financial crisis, introducing landmark economic reforms. Known for his humility, intellect, and dedication, Dr. Singh’s leadership and integrity continue to inspire generations, leaving a profound legacy of progress and service. Dr. Manmohan Singh was awarded India’s second highest civilian honour, the Padma Vibhushan in 1987.
As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, seven-day State Mourning is being observed throughout India from 26 December 2024 to 1 January 2025.
A Condolence Book will be kept open at the High Commission of India located at 36-38, Galle Road, Colombo 03, from 30 December 2024 to 01 January 2025 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
