Consignment of essential medicines donated by China arrives in Sri Lanka

Another consignment of essential medicines and medical supplies donated by the People’s Republic of China to the people of Sri Lanka arrived on 6 December.

The Chinese Embassy in Colombo said the consignment is worth Rs. 2 billion and the shipment comes in 24 containers in the form of 16,000 boxes with a total weight of over 255 metric tonnes.

The embassy said the consignment includes 8 million infusion sets, 1.2 million vials of Omeprazole Sodium for injection, 1 million Capecitabine tablets, 612,720 Enoxaparin Sodium injection, 240,000 bottles of Sodium Valproate tablets and 100 800 ampoules of Heparin Sodium injection.

“The medicine worth Rs. 2 billion arrived on Tuesday. China has donated Rs. 5 billion worth of medicine to Sri Lanka since the economic crisis came to hit in June,” the Embassy said.

Earlier in the week, China also donated 1,000 metric tonnes of rice to school students in Sri Lanka. Cosco container ship ‘Xin Hong Kong’ carrying the 1,000 metric tonnes of rice donated by China arrived at the CICT, Colombo Port on Monday which brings the total Chinese rice donation to 9,000 MT since June.
