Constitutional Council approves Acting IGP

The Constitutional Council has approved the appointment of Senior DIG Chandana Depal Wickramaratne to the post of Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The Constitutional Council convened in Parliament yesterday afternoon chaired by the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.

The Speaker’s office said that the Constitutional Council approved the President Maithripala Sirisena’s recommendation of Senior DIG Wickramaratne for the Acting IGP post.

Meanwhile, the Acting position of C.D. Wickramaratne as the IGP has been extended for another two week period.

IGP Pujith Jayasundara has been sent on Compulsory Leave over the investigations on the Easter Sunday attacks.
