Constitutional Council approves new CJ, Auditor General

The Constitutional Council presided over by its Chairman, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, met at the Parliament complex yesterday. 

Recommendations made by the President to appoint the Chief Justice and the Auditor General were considered at the meeting.

Accordingly, the Constitutional Council unanimously approved the name of Attorney General .Jayantha Chandrasiri Jayasuriya for the post of Chief Justice and Deputy Auditor General Chulantha Wickremeratna for the post of Auditor General.

Measures will be taken to send the list of approved appointments to President Maithripala Sirisena in due course, the Speaker’s Office said.
