Constitutional Council to meet tomorrow on appointment of members to independent commissions

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said that the Constitutional Council will meet on Thursday, 9 March to discuss matters related to the appointment of members for independent commissions including the Election Commission.

The Speaker said some important decisions related to the appointment of members are to be taken at the meeting on Thursday.

The Finance Commission, Procurement Commission, Audit Commission, Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission, Police Commission, Judicial Service Commission, Public Service Commission and Human Rights Commission are the other commissions that need to be composed.

The preliminary work related to appointing members for those commissions is being done these days, the Speaker said.
