Jayasekara, who was sentenced to death by the Ratnapura High Court on a murder charge last month, filed the Writ Petition seeking the Court to order the Commissioner General of Prisons to allow him to attend the sittings of Parliament. The bench comprised Court of Appeal President A.H.M.D Nawaz and Justice Sobitha Rajakaruna.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena also directed the Prisons Commissioner to bring Jayasekera to Parliament last week, but due to the Attorney General objecting to the move, it was not carried out.

A Parliament official confirmed that Jayasekera will take oaths as a MP this afternoon.
