Court issues warrants for two protest leaders

Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday issued a warrant to arrest the convener of the Inter-University Student Federation (IUSF) Wasantha Mudalige and activist Ven. Rathkarawwe Jinarathana Thera for failing to appear in court.

The arrest warrants were issued as the duo failed to appear in court for a hearing of a complaint filed by the Police in connection with disrupting law and order during a protest held in 2021.

A complaint filed by the Fort Police that they acted in a way that constituted an unlawful assembly and disruption during a campaign in the Fort area in 2021 was summoned before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.

Wasantha Mudalige and Rathkarawe Jinarathana Thero, who are named as suspects in the relevant complaint, did not appear in court.

The magistrate accepted a request made by the Police and issued the warrants for their arrest.
