Curfew sees massive drop in New Year accidents

The islandwide curfew has resulted in a significant reduction in the number of accidents on the eve of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year compared to previous years, the Colombo National Hospital has confirmed, adding that there were also no fireworks-related accidents.

According to hospital officials, a total of 87 accidents were reported - none of which were fireworks-related - which was far lower than last year. Among the 87, were six road accidents, 20 domestic accidents, two workplace accidents, and 11 as a result of clashes.
