Customs nabs airport worker smuggling gold biscuits worth over Rs. 58 m

Sri Lanka Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake have arrested an airport worker who was attempting to smuggle gold biscuits worth Rs 58 million.

Customs Media Spokesperson Additional Customs Director General Sunil Jayaratne said Customs Narcotics Unit officials yesterday arrested an airport porter who was attempting to smuggle 65 gold biscuits worth Rs. 58 million out of the airport through the arrival terminal.

The 41 year old porter is a resident of Kurunegala.

He had 6.5kg gold biscuits concealed in the abdomen area of his body at the time of the arrest.
