MP D.V. Chanaka |
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Hambantota District MP D.V. Chanaka has been appointed as the new National Organiser of the party replacing MP Namal Rajapaksa. This key decision was announced during the SLPP Executive Council meeting held at the official residence of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Colombo yesterday.
Political commentators suggest that D.V. Chanaka’s appointment signals Namal Rajapaksa’s preparation for a more prominent leadership role within the party.
At the same meeting, it was revealed that former MP Johnston Fernando has been entrusted with the responsibility of appointing new leaders at both grassroots and District levels, as part of the party’s organisational restructuring.
The gathering was attended by prominent SLPP members, including Chairperson Uduwala Dhammarathana Thera, General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam, National Organiser Namal Rajapaksa, Johnston Fernando, Sanjeewa Edirimanna, and C.B. Ratnayake, among others.
