Viyathmaga pioneer and Siyanaa Dialogue founder Dr. Nalaka Godahewa has started many initiatives to solve people’s problems in the Gampaha District in support of the endeavour of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to provide swift solutions to people’s problems.

Dr. Godahewa took measures to initiate the clean-up of the highly polluted canal of Daramaduwa village in the Peliyagoda area on 10 February.

The canal had not been cleaned for more than five years and was causing a great deal of inconvenience and health problems to residents of the area. The canal cleaning project was initiated with the assistance of the government and private sector. Apart from Dr. Godahewa, the start of the canal cleaning was attended by several local clergy, Daramaduwa residents and activists of the Siyanaa Dialogue.

A pledge had been given by Dr. Godahewa to the people during a previous visit to the Daramaduwa area three days ago that he would take necessary steps to clean up the canal in a response to a request made by a citizen of the area. She had highlighted the hardships that residents and children of the area had to go through due to the polluted canal. The cleaning project of the canal started immediately within three days, fulfilling the pledge and bringing much-needed relief to residents. The canal cleaning project was initiated with the assistance of relevant government agencies and the private sector. Necessary guidance and measures have been put in place to maintain the canal’s cleanliness in the future.
