Date for postal voting registration extended

The date to send in applications for postal voting was extended till 4 October by the Election Commission yesterday.

Applications were to close yesterday but an extension was granted due to the inclement weather that affected many parts of the country and disrupted multiple services, including postal and telecommunication services.  Postal voting for the 2019 presidential election will take place on 30 and 31 October, the Election Department announced yesterday. Postal voting for employees in the Police and Election Department will take place on 1 November.

State officers who will be engaged in election duties, public officials engaged in essential services and personnel of the armed forces, police and Civil Defense Force are entitled to postal voting. The presidential election will be held on 16 November while nominations will be received on 7 October.
