The party leaders have decided to schedule a three-day debate on the motion of no confidence against Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella. Accordingly, the debate will take place on 6, 7 and 8 September.

The decision was arrived at the party leaders meeting held yesterday. The vote pertaining to this debate is set to take place at 5.30 p.m. on 8 September.

The opposition handed over a no-confidence motion against Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena on 21 July following a series of controversial patient fatalities in State hospitals and alarming allegations concerning the importation of substandard drugs.

The main opposition party, Samagi Jana Balawegaya has levelled accusations against Rambukwella, claiming that he has failed to address the critical shortage of medicines and medical supplies in Sri Lanka.  Additionally, they have alleged that several deaths in recent times are attributed to the administration of substandard medication at various hospitals across the country.
