  • Says certain resolutions and bills passed by P’ment backed by international support could prove to be a major hurdle in future
  • Wants Select Committee to look into concerns expressed by group of Sri Lankans living abroad

State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara has requested Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to consider appointing a Parliamentary Select Committee to address any allegations and challenges posed to Sri Lanka internationally that are especially instigated by certain organisations outside the country.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker, Jayasekara who is also the General Secretary of the SLFP, said resolutions and bills already passed by the Parliament backed by international support prove to be a major hurdle to the country.

The letter said that fabricated adverse propaganda too would prove to be a major security huddle in the long term, especially if backed by international support while the frequency of lobbying at international platforms in the event of the growing influence of extremism would prove to be difficult to manage.

The State Minister had attached a letter sent to him from the Global Sri Lanka Forum to his submission to the Speaker which has sought Jayasekara’s intervention in highlighting these matters of dire concern and challenges posed, being resonated at diplomatic level by some countries in the recent past.

The letter sent by the Forum consists of an annexure of the bills/resolutions which they believe are detrimental to the interests of the country. Hence, State Minister Jayasekara has requested the Speaker to appoint a Select Committee consisting of a group of ministers to look into these concerns.
