The Defense Ministry has reportedly summoned a report from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundera regarding providing special security to the home of national cricketer Dananjaya De Silva’s late father in Ratmalana.

Dananjaya De Silva’s father, Ranjan De Silva, who was a councillor of the Dehiwala-Mt. Lavinia City Council, was killed by an unidentified gunman on 24 May. The police suspect that the killing had occurred as a result of an internal clash in the underworld.

The Police say that 10 policemen have been assigned to provide security to the De Silva residence from 25 May.The Police on 31 May arrested three associates of an underworld leader in connection with the murder.

Ranjan de Silva, 62, was elected to Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Urban Council from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) at the last Local Government Election in February.

The Defense Secretary has informed the IGP to provide a report on why special VIP security has been provided to a private house without a basis. According to Defense Ministry sources, the next step will be taken once the report is received, Lankadeepa reports. (ColomboPage)
