Dhammika Perera

Business leader turned SLPP National List MP and Presidential hopeful Dhammika Perera has commenced a series of discussions with political parties in Parliament representing the Tamil and Muslim communities.

Speaking to sister publication ‘Deshaya’ Perera recently confirmed the reports and said he has held discussions with the leaders of two Tamil political parties and one Muslim political party regarding the upcoming Presidential election.

He has chosen not to divulge further details and simply said the discussions concluded successfully. The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) recently confirmed that Perera is among three to four other persons being considered for the Presidential candidacy by the party.

While Perera has also been participating at many public events recently promoting his candidacy, he attended an Education and Trade Fair in Kirindiwela over the weekend.

Addressing the crowd, Perera conveyed his conviction that the country can undergo reconstruction if everyone unites. “In 2024, you will need to make a choice. Will we build a nation our children aspire to live in, or one they desire to leave?” he asked.

He emphasised that in order to ensure the happiness of families today, their income must be tripled, and achieving this is only possible through the creation of employment opportunities in the villages.

Perera pointed out that ensuring the happiness of a household is not solely the responsibility of the Government; families themselves must understand how to contribute to their own happiness.
