Drive-by victim succumbs to injuries

A 32-year-old victim of a drive-by shooting which occurred in Palliyamulla, Panadura last morning, succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to Pandura hospital for treatment. 

The victim, a resident of Egoda Uyana, Panadura, had been traveling in a three-wheeler with another person when two assailants on a motorbike fired on them. The second occupant in the three-wheeler was not hurt, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

According to DIG Rohana, Police had found empty casings from a Type-56 rifle at the scene of crime and investigations are under way to apprehend the two gunmen. Footage of the gunmen escaping the scene, filmed by a pedestrian, has been released to broadcast channels. 

DIG Rohana said it was too early in the investigation to comment on the murder, adding that a team of policemen from Pandura police are investigating the crime. (AF)
