Drop in voters in Colombo

• Drafting 2017 electoral register completed
• Election Commission asks public to check the register

 Noting a decrease in the number of new voters in Colombo city and the Colombo District, ehe Election Commission, yesterday informed the public to verify whether they were registered to vote. 

The Commission in a statement said that the draft of the finalised election register for 2017 was available at www.elections.gov.lk.

Further, the 2016 electronic register and the list of names removed from that register and new additions can be checked at respective Grama Niladhari offices. 

According to the Election Commission a decrease has been noted in the number of new registrations in Colombo city and Colombo District. 

“Hence, the public are informed to check whether their names are included in the electoral register 2017. The commission informs that only persons whose names are included in the electoral register 2017 are eligible to cast their vote in upcoming elections,” the statement said.

All citizens above the age of 18 years are informed to communicate with the relevant Elections Office if the individual’s name is not included in the electoral register 2017, the statement said.
