The National Election Commission has begun preliminary work to conduct the Local Government polls next year.
“Preparations of polling centres, ensuring vehicle facilities and staff are currently being organised,” a spokesman of the Commission said.
The Attorney General has informed the Election Commission that although certain concerns exist, the Local Government Election can be conducted.
The Commission recently decided to obtain the advice of the Attorney General pertaining to announcing the Local Government Election due to the Local Government Delimitation Committee.
Accordingly, the Attorney General’s recommendation has been received by the Election Commission and the decided to unanimously conduct the election.
The Election Commission stated if the election is held based on the current situation; the Gazette in this regard must be issued before 5 January 2023.
The Commission also said further discussions are underway pertaining to holding the election.
A meeting of the Election Commission is also scheduled to be held this week.
