Last week, at the Human Rights Sub Committee session of the European Union (EU) Parliament , Hautala Heidi, the rapporteur of GSP+, raised serious concerns on the case against Hizbulla, calling it a “fabrication”.

During the session, the Deputy Head of the South Asia Division Ivo Shutte also called on the release of Hizbullah.  The GSP+ extension on Sri Lanka is to be decided shortly with Hizbullahs’ case being used as a symbol of the nature of the Prevention of Terrorism Act. The EU has called on the Sri Lankan Government to amend or repeal the PTA in order to continue with the GSP+ concession.
