State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe on Wednesday held a comprehensive discussion with a delegation of the European Union (Sri Lanka and Maldives region) with the aim of identifying areas to upgrade the social security system in Sri Lanka.
The State Minister pointed out the need to further streamline the selection of the people who are in much need of such welfare benefits by maintaining transparency in providing welfare benefits including Samurdhi.
Head of EU Cooperation Jenny Correa Nunes stated that the European Union will work to provide the necessary technical assistance for that process, and accordingly, identify the current needs of the social security system and provide support to the parties who deserve relief.
