Eight new COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours, bringing total to 218

Eight persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. today, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Sri Lanka to 218. Of the total confirmed cases, 45 are from the Colombo District, 44 from Kalutara, and 34 from Puttalam.

The latest situation report from the Epidemiology Unit shows a total of 152 active cases in the country, of which 87 have been admitted at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), 30 at the Welikanda Base Hospital, 26 at the Colombo East Base Hospital, and five at the Iranawila Hospital. A further four individuals are in the process of being sent to a treatment facility.

There have been three new recoveries, with one each recorded at the NIID, Welikanda Base Hospital, and Colombo East Base Hospital over the past 24 hours. The total recoveries now stand at 59.

Of the 142 suspected COVID-19 patients currently hospitalised, 23 are at the Ragama Teaching Hospital, 19 at the Welikanda Base Hospital, 12 at the Homagama Base Hospital, and 12 at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
