Eran writes to EC over social media bomb threat

•  Says he was tagged in Twitter message detailing bomb attack next week
• Asks EC to take necessary action
• IGP also sent copy of letter

State Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne sent an urgent letter to the Election Commission last evening, bringing to its notice a message he was tagged in on social media alleging that a bomb attack was to take place next week.

In the letter, a copy of which was sent to the Inspector General of Police, Wickramaratne reproduced a Twitter message in which he was tagged along with Ministers Harin Fernando and Ajith Perera alleging a bomb attack was being planned for next week. The message urged the UNP members to convene a Security Council meeting over the matter. 

“I believe the above warning is related and in connection to the Presidential Election. As such, I am referring same to the EC for necessary action, including any appropriate action to be taken through other State functionaries,” Wickramaratne said.
