The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) yesterday said torrential rainfall is expected to continue, while also cautioning on strong winds, rough sea and landslides.

The DMC said that rain falls above 150mm are likely at some parts of the country and urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimise damages by lighting and localised strong winds during thundershowers.

The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources also issued temporary suspension of fisheries activities by all small and one-day fisheries vessels yesterday, noting that wind speed across the deep and shallow sea area around the island would rise up to 70 kmph, according to the warning notification by the Department of Meteorology.

Department of Meteorology cautioned fishermen it is dangerous to venture into sea areas and naval communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.

The National Building Research Organisation also issued landslide early warnings for the Colombo, Galle, Kalutara, Kegalle and Ratnapura districts.
